Research Interests:
1) biogeochemical processes of carbon (C) and nutrients in terrestrial ecosystems from agricultural, agroforestry and forest ecosystems in Australia, China, Europe and USA.
2) development and application of innovative stable isotope, biomolecular and physiological techniques for assessing both genetic and environmental controls of plant water and nutrient use efficiency.
3) soil fertility and plant nutrition.
4) development and application of advanced stable isotope, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and biomolecular techniques for studying biogeochemical processes of C and nutrient cycling which underpin ecosystem productivity and sustainability.
5) environmental management and food security.
6) innovative tree ring technologies for unravelling long-term and complex impacts of climate change and local management/historical episodes on biogeochemical cycles, ecosystem productivity and sustainability.
Achievements:
Publications are 293 refereed journal and conference papers (including 235 journal papers) and 2 books, with 184 refereed papers (including 168 journal papers) in the past 10 years.He wasthe Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Soils and Sediments (SCI IF 2016: 2.522) [an average SCI IF of 2.516 for the 10 years between 2007 and 2016, No. 5 in the 34 Soil Science journals, just after Soil Biol. Biochem. (3.624), Plant Soil (2.669), Eur. J. Soil Sci. (2.596) and Geoderma (2.544)], Editor of Environ. Sci. Pollut. Res. (SCI IF 2016: 2.740), Coordinating Editor of Environ. Geochem. Health. (SCI IF 2016: 2.616), Consulting Editor of Plant Soil (SCI IF 2016: 3.052) until the end of 2013, and was a member of the Editorial Review Board of Tree Physiology in 2001.
