Topic:Campaign Monitoring of Railroad Bridges using Wireless Smart Sensors: Past, Present, and Future(铁路桥梁监测中使用的无线智能传感器的过去、现在和未来)

ABSTRACT

The newer and faster development of civil engineering requires developing new methodologies and approaches that can satisfy the demands for safer and stronger structures. At the same time, the new structures need to be built faster, cheaper, taller, and last longer. The Illinois approach prevents current and future risks to existing and future structures by developing and testing earthquake mitigation systems, new diagnostic and testing validation tools, and wireless sensing technologies that can assess the real time responses of structures remotely under real loading. This presentation will summarize the laboratory integrated capabilities and approaches for mitigating seismic response of building structures at the University of Illinois, and new approaches for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of railroad bridges using wireless sensors also developed by the Smart Structures Technology Laboratory (SSTL) at their Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. An overview of construction and performance assessment applications will be briefly outlined to illustrate the presentation with real world structural design and construction projects in North America.

Biography of Mr. Fernando Moreu, PE

Mr. Fernando Moreu, PE, is a PhD candidate at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Illinois of Urbana-Champaign (http://cee.illinois.edu), studying under the supervision of Prof. Bill Spencer, Jr. at the Smart Structures Technology Laboratory (SSTL) (http://sstl.cee.illinois.edu). Mr. Fernando Moreu, PE is a licensed engineer at the US and has worked for over ten years for ESCA Consultants, Inc. for the design and construction of different types of buildings and bridges. Mr. Fernando Moreu, PE participated in the design and construction of more than thirty bridges in seven different states in the US Midwest. Mr. Fernando Moreu, PE’s research interests cover: structural dynamics; wireless sensors; structural health monitoring of bridges and structures; railroad bridges management; infrastructure maintenance, repair, and replacement; and simplified methods to remotely assess bridge health in real time.
